Playing too much of squash or badminton, sitting for long periods, often results in my neck and back pain, worsening and negates the effect of any excercise that I may have done.

It largely depends on what the underlying problem is. I don't know how old you are, but it could be arthritis. If the pain in your neck radiates across your shoulders and down your arms, you could have a bulging or herniated disk in your cervical spine.

Sharp, burning pain in the lower back that radiates through your rearend and down your thigh, (sciatica) can also be caused by a herniated disk in the lumbar spine.

If you're only feeling aches and pains, the best remedy is an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or advil. Take them as directed during the day you plan to excercise and after you excercise for a couple of days. Heating pads can also help.

If you are having back spasms, you will probably need to see your doctor for a muscle relaxer. I hope this helps, good luck.

By the way, stretching excercises are also good for back and neck pain. My doctors and physical therapists always tell me, even though it may not seem so, excercise is the best thing. So don't give up!

Hi,
the best thing is yoga for this. There are some exercises for neck and lower back pain which completely cures your pain but slowly and steadily it will cure your pain. Otherwise you can opt for homoeopathy which will will be the next option that i suggest.Other than this i do not prefer you anything because it will worsen your pain.

The only thing if you opt for my given option then you should have patience and positive attitude of getting your pain cured.

This much only as far as i can suggest you.

The spine is supported by tough group of muscles active everytime. The more these muscles are under stress; for example during playing especially those games which use over-extension of spine and during constant sitting or standing which causes constant weight bearing; the more microfilaments - the smallest unit of a muscle - do develop a spasmodic condition leading to backache or neckache.
So most important in this condition is muscle relaxation - preferably by relaxation techniques & physiotherapy and if not imroved by these measures then muscle relaxant drugs - to be taken strictly under medical supervision as these drugs may cause drowsiness in some persons.
One thing more - we should take care of our spine in day to day activities to avoid spasm to develop - by proper sitting postures, taking intermittent relaxation, avoiding over extension or over flexion of the spine etc.

Eat a diet high in omega 3 fatty acid (salmon, tuna, mackerel, cod) and gammalinolenic acid (5-minute oatmeal), cut out all sugars (natural and man-made). These chemicals either help produce, or, in the case of sugar, help stop the production, of natural pain-reducing chemicals.

avoid sitting down for a long time. it lessens back pain. for the neck, try moving your neck in a circular rotation clockwise and counterclockwise. it stimulates the capillaries and muscles in the area giving you a less tense neck.

Hi,

I suggest do not sit for longer periods. Keep on moving here and there. Sit erect on a dining chair always.

You can do freehand strtches and neck exercises to feel relief.

Have great sex. It will stimulate waist muscles causing wider blood circulation in that region. The pain will be cured.

Have doctor check you out.

The trick is to do things in the limit(your limits).

Take rest and keep healthy habits in moderation.

Do not over do it.
