A discussion arose over Thanksgiving Dinner and it was proposed that any even discreet sound of teeth against fork was unacceptable. What do the finishing schools say? Are we to use our lips and have them covered with icing?

you're supposed to use your lips when removing food from your fork.

any sounds made with the fork are improper. Against your plate, teeth, scrapping the food off your plate, banging the knife and fork together to remove food from one to the other...All IMPROPER

ABSOLUTELY. According to the Book of Etiquette written by Mons. Della Casa you never ever have to bite the fork with your teeth. Only your lips can touch it.

It is not improper to use ones teeth to remove food from a fork.

It is improper to make noise eating ones food unless the noise is polite conversation and laughter.

You eat however you want and if someone's going to judge you based on whether or not your teeth touch the fork then that's messed up, are you sure you want to be friends with someone like that? We're lucky that we have forks to eat our food with, a lot of the world doesn't.

Yes all teeth cleaning should be done discretely, and major cleaning should be done away from the table.
