A friend of mine was in a fender bender and the driver who hit him begged him not to call the police, so he didn't and they exchanged information. Bad Idea, the other driver verbally gave him the insurance policy number....an expired one. Now my friend is getting the run around....He can't do much with out a plate number.

If anyone knows how I can obtain this kind of information, preferably free...PLEASE TELL!!!!!!

Plate numbers can only be looked up by law enforcement and dispatchers. Call your local PD

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

I don't think plate numbers are public information. Your friend should have taken all the information including the plate number, and then decided if he should call the police or not. I know, I know, hind site is 20/20......

best leave this alone, they both left the scene of a accident, they both could be fined for this if it gets reported....just next time call the police
