well here in the USA i do tip my postie too at Christmas and the Trashman too. It's a tradition i brought with me from Germany . There we give the Postal man /woman A Tip for Christmas or the Trashguys when they come on the trucks a bottle of Whisky or some beer which they take home to their pad and have a party with :-)

Hello Jobsdun, firstly it's Christmas not xmas, secondly no, they have put up the price of stamps again & my mail does not come until 1pm as I am last on the route. You could take your door off of its hinges & just leave it standing, so when the postman puts mail through your door, it colapses & then you can get Royal Mail to pay for a new front door, call it staff negligence or something.

Chris.

Don't think too much of the postal service these days, our postman leaves our post half in and half out of the letter box allowing it to get wet through when its raining and no matter how many times I politely ask him not to try and post parcels through our letter box, he will insist on trying to post items that are far too big to post through our letter box, hes now ruined 3 letterboxes of ours, would I tip him, not in this lifetime.

Why would you tip the postie? what's next.... tipping the bus driver, the supermarket checkout person, bank teller, where does it end?

Untrustworthy. Anyway, I hate tipping - I think its condescending and insulting. It's like saying that you're better than them and think they need your charity. If anyone gave me a tip, I'd be very insulted.

I grew up in rural ireland, where our local postman (Ned) used to deliver on Christmas eve, on his bike. without fail every Christmas eve he would end his round totally smashed out of his brain on whiskey given as tips in every house. I am sure he lost a few bikes that way.

Terrible. I have reported my postman for stealing, and absolutley nothing has been done. Nearly every book and DVD I order from amazon fails to arrive. I've had to resort to them being posted to my sister's address and since then there's been no problems with delivery.
