I believe that once you have indefinite leave to remain your marital status can change without affecting your immigration status. With respect to applying for nationality, you must have lived in the UK for five years - if you are married this is reduced to three years. Since presumably you are still technically married it may be that you can go ahead and apply anyway, but I strongly recommend you to consult a solicitor who deals in immigration matters - the law is quite complex and it's difficult to be sure of your situation without being able to ask you questions and check your documents.

I'm afraid nationalitiy is still a long way ahead: you can apply for it only after staying in the UK for 5 years with a permit.
Out of what you've said, your immigration status is totally dependant on your wife, so you not wnating to leave her doesn't play a part. Your best bet is to consult with a lawyer for permits based on the work you do.

Sounds like you need a good immigration lawyer.

Phone your local solicitor and ask.

It may be that your status is fine and that you can apply for nationality in a few years.

Only an immigration lawyer or the Citizens Advice Bureaux will know for sure.

You could also contact your local MP.

You definitely need to find a good immigration lawyer, I'd start by going to the Citizens Advice Bureau and getting some free advice. I'm really sorry your wife and her family are treating you this way and I hope everything work outs for you. Good luck : )

If you have indefinite leave to remain, your marital status will not effect it, also If you have legally remained in the UK for three years or more you can apply for UK nationality. do not fear the words of your evil in laws. Good luck

If you have a job with a higher level of competence than a fruit picker then I'm sure you can stay, but please stop being so gullible - either elope with your wife or go it alone.
