My horses roughly eat 1.5 % of their body weight. Which is about almost 15-17 pounds each. Rounding 1,100 then 1,240 then1,300 as my three horses.

Depending on how a person splits their feed, will deep on feeding the horse. Every horse can have different weighing scales with the same food since it can be based individually on the horse.

In the winter, they can eat estimate of 2-3%, which is about 20-25 pounds. Then extra supplements for those who have higher metabolism or exercise such as my mare. My oldest gelding gets extra supplements due to his age, which is a common factor to loose weight as horse is in late 20's, entering into 30's.

I also look at the ground and their feeders to see if any left over hay. They are all together in pasture and I usually adjust feeding based on if left overs or not as well.

firstly - 1,000 lbs is not gargantuan (as a previous poster stated) - it is pretty average. most horses between 15 -16 hh will weigh in around that.

There are so many variables -
time of year, horses need more in the winter when the grass is not so good and the weather is colder. Is it cold where you are?
age of the horse?
is the horse overweight at 1000 lbs or underweight?
What kind of work is the horse doing? Light, medium, hard?

Most horses needs about 1-2% of their body weight per day in hay and about 1% of body weight in grain.
Depends on how much work the hourse is getting. The more work the high the calories need to be. A horse in heacy training and work may need more calroies than he can safely consume in a day in grain so you can add fat to the grain to up the calories safely.
Stabalized rice barn or oil will work. Start slowly and go up to one cup of oil per feeding.
You have to adjust the feed all the time by watching the body condition ofthe horse.
