There is a over the counter product called musinex (sp) that works very well for your problem. Also purchase some saline nose spray, which will help you develop less phlegm. If your phlegm has color to it, you should see a doctor to find out what the source is, you may have an infection. Or you may need to seek an ENT (ear, nose and throat ) specialist, possibly allergies. There are many good medications that can be prescribed for you. Good luck and feel better soon!

You may have had phlegm in your throat at one time that stimulated the urge to clear it. However, with all that throat-clearing, you have caused your vocal cords to become irritated and swollen. This makes you feel like you have something to clear out, when you actually don't.
The best way to make the sensation go away is to give your vocal cords a rest. Inhibit the urge to clear your throat; swallow instead. Drink cool (not cold) water to soothe your throat. No laughing, singing, humming, or coughing, because these will irritate your vocal cords even more. If you follow this, it should clear up in about a week or ten days.

gargle with warm salt water. you may need to look into a sinus rinse product to help clear your sinuses and stop the flow from your sinus to the back of your throat.
