Use a Fleet brand enema for quick results. I tend to drink A LOT of water and mix 100% apple juice with prune juice and warm it up and drink as a hot beverage - that usually get me going!

Drink lots of water, at least 8-10 glasses a day or more, and eat extra bulk and fiber such as greens, beans, fresh vegetables and fruits, cornbread etc. Get some exercise too. If that doesnt help try a stool softener like ducosate sodium or try a Fleets enema, but be careful with laxatives like Fleets or ExLax because they can cause your body to be dependant on them to be able to go at all. Only use them on occasion, if its like an emergency use. A stool softener with no added laxative is way better, it just loosens you up a bit so it is easier to help you go. Plus you can use them fairly often with no dependance. A good softener is Colace but you can get good ones at the Dollar Store for way less cost, same stuff in them and work the same. You can also try adding fiber powder to your diet, there are many good ones on the market today. Hope that helps.

Eat prunes. There is a reason so many nursing homes serve them to their residents. Also drink lots of water and ingest plenty of fiber on a daily basis. The best source is fresh fruits and vegetables. Soda and coffee can pull the water from your digestive system so your bowels don't retain enough fluid to move the waste through your body.

If you want to avoid taking medicine (which is a good idea as medicines for constipation can be habit-forming), eat a large amount of dried fruits (apples, prunes, pears and apricots are best) and drink a lot of water. This always works quickly for me.

Docusate sodium is a stool softener. If you are really desperate, you can get an enema to induce a bowel movement, but it's VERY uncomfortable.
