I am considering Sony NC-6 and Panasonic RP-HC300 but reviews have been mixed. What specifications should I be paying attention to if noise-cancellation in low and high ranger is most important to me? What other brands and models should I consider within this price range? Thank you.

Two years ago I bought a Maxell NCII at a Walgreens for $25. Don't know if they're still around, but at the time they were rated one of the better cheap noise cancelling headphones around.

I agree. Clamshell design, the response not bad, the noise cancelling pretty effective. I suppose you could find ones w/ better response, esp if you're going to be using them a lot. I use mine very infrequently so price was a big factor in getting them.
