The meat and bean group.
All foods made from meat, poultry, fish, dry beans or peas, eggs, nuts, and seeds are considered part of this group. Dry beans and peas are part of this group as well as the vegetable group.
Most meat and poultry choices should be lean or low-fat. Fish, nuts, and seeds contain healthy oils, so choose these foods frequently instead of meat or poultry.

It's in the meat group because of the protein content. The nuts don't know what they're talking about - lol
On the food pyramid, nuts are in the meat/protein group, as are dried beans. They are not "vegetables" they are legumes... which is a different thing all together. Tree nuts, while not legumes, are not vegetables either. All nuts, including peanuts (a legume) and dried beans (also legumes) are in the meat group.

Peanut butter falls under the Meat or Alternatives group. In this instance it would be considered an "alternative". Nuts, seeds, beans, tofu, etc all fall under this group.

I think nuts are under the meats category, because even though they contain fat it is considered "good fat", but it might be in the fats category.
