Although I have not been succesful in finding any information on this topic I feel that this lighting is the root of many of our medical complaints. This lighting works by actually flickering at a very high speed which you do not see but your brain does. I have experiemented with task performance, reduction in headaches,seizures(partial/auras), attention with and without the lighting and have found that this lighting is the culprit. Many places of employment use this lighting and if you suffer from migrains/ADD, etc. this could be your problem. What do you think about this. Do you know of any websites that support this this claim. I am hoping to keep this topic open for as long as they allow so we can continue to get input on personal experiences with this issue. Even without epilepsy I feel this could disrupt the average persons brain. Causing it to misfire and create problems that could be eliminated by simply using the good old incadescent light. Whats your opinion?

I do not have photosensitive epilepsy but I have noticed a increase of partial seizures (Olfactory hallucinations, Deja Vu, Lack of attention, headache, weird feeling) while exposed to this light. I dont really trust eegs where they may not show misfiring deep in the brain or pick up auras.

This is only a theory but I am finding supporting evidence. I welcome any information you all can give. Please give me hard evidence either way. Lets do this together. Hey we all get some of these symptoms at some point in our lives. Did this lighting play a role? We can all work together and hopefully help some people.

During my graduate studies in Education/Curriculum & Instruction, I remember learning about how flourescent lighting in schools affects students with ADD, so your theory has support. I personally put lamps all around my classroom and made sure to have the blinds up at all times to maximize the amount of natural light in the room. While I couldn't quickly find anything in an online search, I just wanted to let you know that I had heard of this and agree with you that it definitely plays a role.

Your position does in fact warrant some merit.
However, being a retired engineer, I would want to see some hard data that supports your position. You mention that you "have experimented" in variious facets where you feel this affects people. What did you collect for data and what do you feel that it shows? Does your data show that this IS THE CAUSE, or does it shows that IT CONTRIBUTES TO THE CAUSE of the symptoms you defined? Use the data to show how you determined your "is the culprit" position on this.
A couple of things that you have left out of your "study" are televisions, and computer monitors. They too blink at high rates of speed and should be included in your study since so many people spend so much time viewing them.
My position on this, based upon basic conjectures you have given us as "facts", is that it certainly is possible that this could be a factor in some of the stated maladies, but I'm not convinced that those visual stimuli you mentioned are the only contributing factor to those types of maladies.
For example, ADD doesn't come on simply by being exposed to fluorescent lighting. Neither does Epilepsy. These two are definitely brain disorder issues. There are things that will "aggrivate" these contidions, but that is far from being the CAUSE.
Tremor has many potential neurological causes, and headaches and anxiety are based heavily on emotions.
So realistically, you need empirical data and not conjecture to support and properly establish your position. I'm not saying you are totally wrong. I do think your position is based on what you have heard or read, but you are asking others to join you in your position. So show us the data and where you got it from.
Without the data, I can only agree that Florescent Lighting MAY contribute to Headaches and Anxiety directly. I think that factors that have to be included to cause these symptoms is the persons emotional stability and related stress levels at any given time.
So prove your point with some hard data and I'm sure folks will accept and join you in your position.
From my perspective on this; "Show me, I'm from Missouri" kind of fits this position you've taken.
JMHO, Hope this helps.

1. Fluorescent light bulb cause it's energy-efficient unlike filament. 2. Not one that I can really remember. 3.What do you mean by round bulb? The difference between a filament and a fluorescent is that filament converts 70% of the electrical energy to heat in order to generate light but the advantage of it is that you can adjust the brightness hence making it more "romantic" for certain circumstances. 4. Nothing 5.Not really but I know it uses electrodes to light up the mercury vapor inside the bulb which also contain a ultra-violet lighting. Since UV rays are carcinogenic then I guess it does cause cancer under circumstances such as over-exposure to it.

This does not give people illnesses. [Just incase you are asking if lighting creates the conditions]
My mom remembers when she was in school this caused problems for her. The problem was and still may be the disbelief and medicate garbage places and doctors seem to support.
When I was in school,.. although you are suggesting this is supposed to go so fast your eyes do not notice and your brain does, I did notice this.... I could catch things with my eyesight like that very easily. [When lights blinked. How much they blinked. I think I even tried to count some times because they were that distracting. I can also hear some types of lights that noone else notices.]
According to some test I do have higher senses then "normal" people. [..as well as a higher range.] I am very happy atleast a couple test figured that out,.. but of course noone wants to accept that,.. they'd rather say I'm nuts and overmedicate me so that people get lots and lots of money.
So in the long run,.. nothing matters. Doctors prefer to overmedicate children to make things easier for everyone but the child and then this causes damage to the child,.. which later is more problems that more overmedicateing is used on,.. which causes more damage and so on.
(There are parts that no normal person knows exsist or the name for that produce, release, control, and monitor the levels of chemicals released in your body. Useing things like retilan as much, as strong, and as long as they tend to destroys these so later the child is a teen and lacking these. These help to trigger when things are frightening or you should restrict yourself from something,.. they also are needed as your growing and devolopeing,.. so you are never quite complete, things are not as emotional for you,.. and things like suicide can come easier. It is different from person to person depending on alot of factors,.. like dosage strength, number of dosages a day, and length of time your on them as well as all the undiagonised and.. blah blah blah,.. what does anyone care what I do or say.)
So changeing lights would be too cheap and easy.

Your right! I understand it is also the sound that these lights make also that is similar to the light flickering itself. The sounds seems to do the same thing. Flickering sound this is a double wamy! This is probably why I did so terrible in school yet when I take my continuing education for real estate online I do awesome compared to a classroom. Companies think they are saving a buck on energy yet it is causing a loss in productivity.

Well, it certainly would explain the rise in ADHD cases in recent years. I noticed that recently-built schools are built like forts, with only narrow slits for windows. Back when I was in school (yes, in the stone age!), schools had lots of windows which were open when the weather was agreeable.

I like fluorescent light, but I've seen news reports in the past that have talked about the dangers of it. Have you tried encyclopedias? Go to your local public library and ask someone in "Reference" to help you---they're trained to do that.
