If the government is talking about leaving Basra within 6 months why don't they just leave now - 6 months won't make a difference just save more soldiers from dying leaving earlier.

yep. no valid reason to go inthe first place, no reason to stay now. The sooner we leave the sooner a natural balance cna be restored to the country.

Forcing our idea of democracy and values on a country will never work.

you would have thought we'd learnt that by now. I guess there are no history books in Downing Street.

There's a lot of planning involved in withdrawing a military force from any region. It takes time and resources. We don't have very many transport aircraft for a start, so that would increase the time it takes. It can't be done overnight and would take a month or so to actually do, let alone the planning involved to ensure it runs smoothly. At an estimate, I think it would take at least 3 months to get every British soldier and piece of hardware out of Iraq, and that's under perfect conditions (nobody attacking them as they withdraw etc)

I totally agree though. we should get out now. Too much blood has been spilled.

There is no easy solution to this crisis. They either want help, in which case we stay and try as we can ho help gain peace, or we go and let them all get on with it and land up killing themselves.
Remember, there are a lot of innocent people being killed over there, not just our soldiers.
Its not just political here, its all about humanity as well. Not every one over there wants to fight, just want a peaceful life like every one else, and that's what we are over there for, hoping, in the end, to achieve it.
you must remember that a lot of those causing the trouble have been brought up to hate others of a different culture, a different background, and that is wrong.
Until every one understands that every individual has a right to live in peace there will be war.
We all want our troops to come home, especially the families of those who are over there, but at what cost to the innocents that are in that country?

Unfortunately it would take six months to do it with dignity. It is one of those no win situations.
Of course when we do eventually pull out, the Iraqis will start to say we have deserted them and call us all cowards for leaving them to kill each other!
What can we really do except pray for a humane solution.?

petrowar already.whats wrong worried your soldiers will be
left on there own(if we go your government will lose the last
of its credibility and so it should)if America are the world pol
ice,I want to know who polices the police?you need to stop
blindly following your leader where ever his oil addiction
takes him and start looking at the real reasons for your
war.in 2000 Saddam starts to sell oil in euros instead of
dollars(at a loss at first to hurt the USA)then you invade
and guess what, you put a puppet government in place
and wow,Iraq sells its oil in dollars(laughable if it was

Yes. We should've left a long time ago. We're making the situation worse by being there and peoples lives are being sacrificed just because the PM won't admit he made a huge mistake.
