Memory cards as disks - memory cards used in digital cameras can, with the right adapters, often be used almost like floppy disks in most personal computers. It's one way to transfer your photos from the camera to computer or vice versa. So it's theoretically possible that any virus that could propagate via floppy could do so via a memory card being passed around from computer to computer or vice versa.

Cameras as targets - Digital cameras are in many ways sophisticated dedicated-purpose computers. So it's theoretically possible that if a camera's "operating system" allowed programs to be loaded into the camera somehow, such a program could be a virus.

In a nutshell: Yes cameras are vulnerable to viruses from computers

It is very unlikely that a virus designed to damage a PC operating system like Windows would harm a camera. However, your camera might become a "carrier" for the virus. Flash memory, either built into the camera, or in a memory card can store certain viruses and transport them from computer to computer. Even though your camera won't be directed harmed, it would still be a good idea to run a complete PC virus scan before copying anything.

All the wise persons who have previously answered this question have said this is possible. However, I beg to differ. My understanding is that a virus has to be attached to a .exe file. A pic will be a JPEG etc. and my understanding is that it is not possible for a virus to attach itself to such. I can't see how a digicam can have a virus unless such has been transferred first from a computer.

it depends on which file is infected by the virus..if the files u r transferring are infected then it might infect and damage ur camera too...i would suggest its better if u run a virus scan and remove the virus from ur computer before transferring the files....
