Just do it! The more you think the harder it gets. I dont run but i do power walk and as soon as i get a few yards i tell myself i am on my way home. Works for me!

Aim for the pub!
Joke: Its hard to get motivated if you don't go regularly. Plan an easy route to do for a week or so and then start building up a bit. Music is a must as are good running kit.
The KEY to not turning around tho is to NOT THINK about truning around. Distract yourself with some other thoughts preferably sporty. I often find that thinking about beating the **** out of my boss helps. Gets you pumped!

Try and do a circuit so as you can't turn back as easily, there and back's are also more boring. Try music, uplifting dance music if you like that kind of thing. Go before you have eaten something and think of the reward of having something to eat when you get back. Go in the daylight, change the route, get some nice kit so you look good.

Reward system might work. Try planning a route that includes a coffee shop. Perhaps set yourself targets that will result in a new pair of shoes.
Also, your viewing this as a chore. If running on your own does not do it for you, try joining a club, or jogging with friends. Failing that, change sport. Try cycling etc.

Tell yourself you got something cool waiting for you at home. Give yourself some kind of award, like a carrot at the end of a stick. Hype yourself up w/ a goal; so you have a purpose to run. Good luck!

Go with a friend or group of friends. You'll keep each other going, and sometimes have so much fun you don't even notice the run.
Don't have any running friends? Just hang around the park and wait for a group of similar looking people and tag on the end. Don't pick Olympic athletes doing their final training or you'll get disheartened.

Download some new music onto your mp3 player, or even a new playlist that makes you wanna move or empowers you. That's one of the only things that gets me through it! Also, maybe reminding yourself of the benefits of running could help. Remember that the more you run, the easier it becomes, and the more rewarding. Hence, you will begin to like running more and more.

Promise yourself a reward when you get back. Only cake does it for me, which kind of defeats the object. Borrow a dog - makes you feel as though there's a purpose (but make sure it's one that likes running & won't want to stop every five seconds). Make it a circular route so you have to complete it.

Get someone to go with you.
Best is a friend who will run at a similar speed to yourself, so neither of you are holding the other back, and someone who will make you feel competitive! So you can beat their lazy behind all around the block!

Ye had this problem myself - going in a stright line away from house as a circuit thing was just an excuse to nip in for water/ loo/ etc., you are`doing well just to get out the door and do sonething well done for that. Be sure you are enjoying it that is what is important
