There are two different cases: if your degree is from a major law school in a common-law jurisdiction like Canada, the UK, etc. then it will be accepted by a number of US states. If it is from a civil-law jurisdiction (and in some states, from a common-law one) then it may be "validated" in a number of US states if you get an LLM from an accredited US law school.

In California, no law school training is needed to take the Bar examination.

If you are admitted to the Bar of a foreign country, most states will authorize you to work as a "foreign legal consultant".
