Welfare Cake
"This cake is so moist that you would swear it was from a box!"
Original recipe yield: 1 - 9x13 inch pan.
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups water
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, salt and baking soda. Make a well in the center, and pour in the oil, vinegar, water and vanilla.
Mix well, then pour into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

I get instant pudding mix and make it as the directions say, (choc.) and devils food cake mix. Mix the contents of the pack, DO NOT add any thing else like eggs or oil or water like the cake directions say.
Pour all of that into a greased pan and sprinkle chocolate chips on top...its a very moist and easy cake.
Bake at the temperature the cake box says...
I like it b/c I hardly ever have eggs at home.

I would go with chocolate. If it is for a marriage I guess white cake, but my groom cake when/if I get married will be chocolate.

mmm, I pick the sumptous chocolate cake that I indulge with every single bite. it tastes divine, instead of quick white cake. both are still good though.

Best Chocolate Cake
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
4 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Bring to a boil the 1/2 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 cup shortening, water and 1/4 cup cocoa.
Remove from heat and add flour, sugar, 1/2 cup milk and vinegar.
Mix well.
Then add: eggs, baking soda and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Mix well until lumps are gone. Pour into greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
To Make Fudge Frosting: Combine in saucepan , 6 tablespoon butter or margarine, 4 tablespoons milk and cocoa.
Bring to rolling boil.
Remove from heat and add 3 cups confectioners' sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Beat until smooth.
Spread on cooled cake.
White Cake
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup Crisco or butter (using the Crisco would make it much whiter in color.)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites
1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350.
Grease and flour tube pan.
Mix flour, baking soda and salt together and set aside.
Cream sugar with Crisco.
Add vanilla and egg whites.
Alternately blend in flour mixture, milk, flour mixture, milk until is well mixed.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until tester inserted comes out clean.
Let cool.
Then use your favorite frosting.

White for a wedding, chocolate any other time! But then again, I am a chocolate addict...if I am ever trapped in a vat of chocolate, please don't send help!
