I found this really good website that has TONS of information about homeschooling. They're also having an essay contest, in which the top two essayists will each win a Nintendo Wii!! The essay must be 500-1,000 words, and the question to be answered is: How is your family putting "Christ" into Christmas this year? The contest ends December 31st, 2006.

Lots of info for Kansas here:

Also, I highly recommend going to Yahoo groups and doing a search for "kansas homeschool". Join a few groups there and join the conversation. They will be able to give you a TON of information. Far more than you can get here.

Good luck!

I do not know what the laws are in Kansas but you can do search on the internet for "home schooling". You can get info on how to purchase books, carriculum, etc. You can also contact the local school board to find out what the minimum requirements are for each grade leval that you intend to teach your son.

Begin requesting home-school curriculum catalogs immediately! You are going to need some time to reasearch. Most companies will send the catalogs to you free of charge. You can learn a lot about what you should be teaching your son just from studying these catalogs. The larger curriculum companies like Abeka, Bob Jones, and School of Tomorrow, for example, send their representatives to local hotels for curriculum demonstrations several times per year. They bring one of everything with them so you can spend as much time as you need looking at it. That way you know what you are getting before you buy. When you find a curriculum company you are interested in, call and ask if they are sending a rep to your area in the near future. The companies who don't do that will mail you examples of specific curriculums so you can review them. If you want to go online, type "home school curriculum" into your search engine, and you can literally spend days looking at curriculum online. You will eventuallly land on a curriculum you know is right for you and your child.
You are making the right decision to homeschool him. He will learn twice as much in half the time as compared with public schooling. In addition, you will have the opportunity to teach him so many things that can't be found in textbooks. Good Luck!

Check your library for books on homeschooling. Also, do web searches for correspondance schools. Good ones are A Beka, Summit Christian Academy, and Homeschool.com. Homeschool.com will also help in your search for more info.
