i have a couple of tattoos. i usually have them covered up, especially the ones on my arm and back. they fade due to too much sun exposure. in the future, just make sure you cover your tattoos with sun block. itll make the color last much longer. i have a lot of friends who get them touched up after 2 years. just remember not to do it frequently and try and stay consistent with the artist who does them for u. different people might press harder when tattooing which could cause the tattoo to scab and scar. The tattoo shouldnt blur. just look into a good artist who can make the outlining sharper. you should be fine.

You haven't really told us how much sun exposure you get to that lower back tattoo. Quality black ink should stay black a lot longer than four years. It should not be going blue at this stage of the game.
If you have fairly dark skin, it will appear bluish/grayish quicker on fading, too.
The problem with "touching up" is that you just can't do part of it to look good, the whole thing would need to be done. Have your tattoo artist take a look at it if you are so confident in the work.
In the meantime - always use a good sunblock and repeat the application throughout the day if exposed.

If you had it done at a reputable studio, there should be no need for touchups only 4 years later. Black should stay black. Tattoos fade when they've been exposed to UV rays, so to keep it looking fresh keep it out of the sun and tanning beds or wear an SPF 50. Sounds to me like it just wasn't done properly though. Go to somebody else that is highly recommended and you shouldn't have to worry about getting it re-done again.

My partner got a Tattoo not long ago, and i remember the tattoo artist telling my bf that to maintain a tattoo for life it needs to have touch-ups. From what i recall it once every couple of years (don't quote me on that though). The tattoo artist told him they generally just go over the outline to sharpen the edges which in whole will make the tattoo look a lot more fresh.
They did also mention that a lot of care needs to be taken in order to protect a tattoo from fading, such as trying to always cover it when exposed to sunlight, and also applying sunscreen. I suppose its a bit like skin cancer, that if you don't take care of your skin it will get damaged.
I would advise you to get a touch up. You do not want to leave forever and let it get worse making it harder to fix. Once you have gotten a touch up, LOOK AFTER IT :)

well like i told you in your other answer i do tats. and their are many reasons why your tat could be fading. one good reason is you should put sun screen on you tat the sun can mess up a tat and cause it to fade and change color. and also you said you gained lbs, that could be it. when your skin stretches then so dose your tat. you should get a little touch up if it is that bad.

Tat's do fade, as your skin gets older. Especially coloured tatoos. You do need to get them touched up, its part of the up keep. It also depends on the dye they used, it could have been a cheapy.
Go to a professional and they wil use fine needles and it wont go blurry.

it sounds like you went to someone who wasn't very good at tattooing. it's possible they didn't go deep enough or went too deep. i would go to someone else who is reputable and has a good portfolio. it is necessary to get tattoos touched up but i don't know how often.

It doesn't matter who did your tattoo. They all turn green and look like you got it in prison.
