Amitriptyline is an antidepressant (I was on it a few years back). I think you should talk to your doctor and get more info from him. You need to be careful coz you are really mixing the drugs.
BTW...its imposssible not to sleep for 3 weeks, you would have been napping even if not having a good nights sleep!...;

They are definitely an anti-depressant (I'm on them too). I wonder what dose you on coz my doctor put me on 50mg per day and after 5 weeks there was no difference - I still didnt sleep and was still depressed. Went back and my GP put me up to 100mg at night and I've been sleeping brilliantly since without any other meds. Maybe go and have a chat with your GP xxxx

I went to the doctor in 1983 about not sleeping. He prescribed me Rohypnol ... and the rest is history.
They don't fully understand brain chemistry so everything they give you is ultimately a shot in the dark. Amitrypteline makes me buzz. It is an anti-psychotic as far as i know. But on some it works like a horse tranquilizer! Tamazepam is nice though. Used to make me all mellow :-)

Amitriptyline is an antidepressant, but also a sedative. Zopiclone didn't do a thing for me, but amitriptyline gave me fantastic sleep.

Not sleeping for 3 weeks? What the hell? Is that even possible?

You really should ask your doctor if you don't understand why you've been prescribed something or what it is.
