instead of presuming one ought read the actual question.
Guy is using cafepress.
How do you promote any business???
You gotta find people that actually may buy one of your shirts and market at them.
IF you can't stand to advertise in a traditional sense - sign up for google adsense. That's what everyone else is doing.

I will presume you have a website and your own domain name.
A key part of your business should be to create a prospect/customer list (email / physical address)
An autoresponder is essential. Search for "free autoresponders"
freeautobot.com and sendfree.com are free others such as getresponse.com/aweber.com are paid.
Set up a lead capture page at your site so you can get prospect's email address and name so that you can follow up with them.
A good way is to offer them a free "bribe" in exchange for their email address. Something you can deliver at no cost to you. Perhaps a free report that helps them in selecting your type of product or tips on how to use your type of product.
Then you want to follow up every week or so with more tips or a mini course on how to use your product, etc.
Of course include links to your site and your product or offer them a special deal, etc.
Once you have that in place a good way to get people to sign up is to help other people in forums or newgroups and just include a simple link to your signup page with your offer of a free report in your signature file.
Make sure you offer valuable information in your "posts" at the forums. Hang out in the forums that your customers are likely to participate in. For eg. if you are selling craft supplies you could participate in forums that crafters visit. You could help them with tips and information about new techniques etc.
As suggested by another person, writing and submitting articles is also a good way to promote yourself for free. It also positions you as an "expert"
Make sure you provide valuable content at your website and this can help with your search engine placement.
Hope this helps
