She should not be allowed to push for more than 1 hour without taking her to see a vet. Your current vet is an idiot, call another one that knows something about whelping.

See here http://www.labbies.com/reproduction3.htm

If she keeps straining she could rupture or expel her uterus.

I agree with most of trouble's answer, but there's more---i breed shar-peis and what could be the trouble is its a clump of after-birth from 4 pups (could have been too much for her size--mine are medium sized, about 15 inches in height and all (8) average 3 pups), could be another pup that didn't fully develop or is stuck or behind something that is...check her foot pads & nose to see if she has fever since it sounds like you can't use a thermometer, make sure she is as comfortable as possible (w/ other pups & cleans sheets or towels) Most vets have an emergency number and i would certainly call NOW----oh, and be prepared--you may have to help remove the "not sure" thing EEEEEWWWW! Hope some of this helped

I think it is the placenta or something. My dog had pups last year and she ended up having one stuck inside her (she was kinda pushing as well, but no more were coming out).
I would take your dog to the vet. They can tell for sure. Good Luck - I hope your dog and the puppies are all healthy!

Get your poor dog to the vet ASAP. There are too many things that could be going wrong and she is suffering. What are you thinking you should have already taken her. Go now!!! Have you left yet? Do you want your poor friend to die. Go already!!!!

Take her to the vet. It is possible there is another pup in there and it is dead. Your dog could die if you ignore this. Please take her to the vet right away. You will feel horrible if you let this go.

you better get her to the vet, it sounds like she might have another one that's stuck....don't delay, this can be dangerous
