I don't know if anyone can help but I have decided I need counselling. I have been to the doctors and am on the waiting list but it is a three month wait! Do I get my boyfriend to put me on his BUPA care? if yes is counselling even avaliable through this? or do I do it on my own back and go to a local counsellor which I think can cost anything up to £40 a go. (Quite a lot of money for what I earn and spare?). Feels like I really want to get help but there are a lot of obsticles in the way at the mo - any advice anyone?

Hi you,

Congratulations on taking the first step. Unfortunately, you do not say what you need counselling for, therefore, my answer cannot be specific.

What I suggest you do is look at the link below and see if there is any telephone helplines that would suit your needs.

If there is not then PM me and I shall point you in the right direction.

Samaritans - 08457 90 90 90 (www.samaritans.org.uk)

Relate - 0845 1 30 40 16 (www.relate.org.uk)

Counselling Directory - www.counselling-directory.org.uk

These are just a couple of good sites. Both Relate and Samaritans can help with over the phone advice, although Relate also do email and face-to-face sessions.

Best of luck with everything and well done for realising there is a problem. I'm a big advocate of counselling so I'm proud that isn't as much stigma attached to it anymore. As far as I'm concerned, bottling things up just isn't healthy.

identifying that you need counselling is the first step. Good on ya. Now do you have any care lines over there? We have lifeline which is manned by volunteers and careline and in small towns a community line. these phones are manned by volunteers that can offer counselling while you wait. Does you local hospital have counselling - do you have a womens health centre or support service over there. Good luck

I think you'll find that if you join BUPA they will not pay for counselling because you have already seen your doctor for your problem and are on the NHS waiting list for it. I think its either NHS or pay private xx
