What's the biggest age difference there should be between partners?

My sister is 21, and she's interested in a guy who is in his late 30s.

There are the extreme cases that you hear about, that often involve celebrities. For instance, Charlie Chaplin was in his early 50s when he married Oona O'Neil (playwright Eugene O'Neil's daughter) when she was 17 or 18 years old. The had a long, happy marriage which produced 8 children, including the actress Geraldine Chaplin.

Picasso fathered a child at the age of 80-something. And more recently, the late Tony Randall did the same thing with his wife, at the time 50 years younger.

However, I think that the general level of attraction runs about 5-10 years in either direction, once you're in your 20s and beyond. There are practical considerations to think of if the age gap gets much wider than that.

But who ever said love is practical, either?

I don't think we should allow society to dictate age restrictions in relationships. There is a 21 year age gap between my boyfriend and I (I'm 27). I have never been happier in my life. Just like with any relationship, it needs to have the essentials like trust, understanding, communication, interests, goals, etc. If those elements are in place, then nothing else matters. Love is the greatest feeling in the world, and age shouldn't stop anyone from experiencing it.

Well younger girls who do not relate to men their age often turn to older men because of simillarities in outlook, mentality, socialism, etc.

Older men often turn to younger girls because it gives the impression of youth, ease, less pressure say that someone their own age would instill on the relationship.

In all reality, age doesnt matter so long as you both are on the same common ground and understanding. Although at what age you are does have some sort of barring on the situation. For instance its more socially accepted to be 20 with a 35 year old as opposed to 15 and a 40 year old.

It depends on the age of the parties in your case your sis is 21 the oldest guy should be 28 or 30 might be pushing it unless you think you sis is really mature for her age

That's a big stretch...the reason it's better to marry a person closer in age to you is the number of things you have in common...music that you've liked, movies you grew up with, experiences that you both can laugh about, even toys you played with as a kid. Those kinds of life experiences may not seem like much when you first marry, but after awhile those common things become the stuff married couples talk about. After 33 years with my sweetie we know each other pretty well!!!

it really depends on the couple. ive learned that for the most part 5-7 years older works best for me. ive known this since i was about 15. a girl i work with is 25 and her boyfriend is 37 and they are great together. my best friend and her husband are 5 years apart. it all depends on the couple

As long as the relationship is legal, the age is a personal matter.

Well. sweetie.. Sometimes age dont matter... I know i'm a mature 20 year old and i'm talking to a mature30 year old.. It can be an issue sometimes.. But we dont really pick who we choose to fall in love with... Love is Blind.. And sometimes Liking is too..
