Why not make reference to Marines when we address this question. Marines have been around since pirate days and served on-board ships and vessels even as far back as the middle 18th century. Marines were very close quarters fighters and often were deployed onto enemy ships to "sweep them", or kill anything that moved if it didnt have its hands up. Look into the history of the corps, its wonderful tales of sacrifice, and courage will keep you reading. I think the Army is great, but marines are great too. I have never been a marine, but that dont mean I cant be interested in their history.
Great American Heros is who they were and always be.

USA army has been involved in every stupid conflict since the declaration of Latin American independence from Europe. Roughly after the 1800, it has been in war with Mexico, All of Europe, USSR, All of south East Asia.

A country that I can assure you has an army equivalent to the USA army is North Korea. They spent 45% of their budget in war armament.
