Pope Benedict quotes an ancient prophet saying Islam is a violent religion. Islamics respond by threatening violence.

Case proved?

I think you are correct, although Its not PC to say so, since they are a minority almost everywhere in the world, and its not PC to say anything bad about minorities ( unless it happens to be a white Judao/christian minority)
EDIT: If Islam is not a religion of violence, why is every single conflict today about Muslims trying to make others live by their rules, or about Muslims trying to force Islam on others.

The crow calls the cauldron black.

Any religion can be used as an excuse to do good or evil. Meaning lies completely by context and interperatation. If you think Christianity is any better as a whole, look back to the holy wars and the inquisitions. Both acts done under the catholic flag. You might say that was all in the past, but our culture is no working full time to pay for a straw house. Unhappy people have the tendancy to take their frustrations out on others.

Today there are good christians and bad christians. Good Islams and bad islams. The quickest way to damn your soul is to forget that violence and evil are in you and belive in infallibilities.

No, of course it is not a violent religion! but this religion (the Islam)is being violated by his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
Respond with a threatening violence, was the result of its provocation. If the new Pontiff found faults in the Islamic religion, he could always suggest an Office in the Vatican City to discuss these matters in private, with all the necessary precaution on the subject of such a delicate matter.

Any religion can be used for violence, any thought for that matter can be taken up for a cause that leads to violence. Islam itself, if you study just what it says can be hostile to ideas outside of itself, Just as Christians can be the same way, however the Koran does not prohibit violence nearly as strongly as the new testament of the bible, HOW ever look at the OT, and how violent that was, it is all subjective, and only real study on the issue will give you answers.

Although the politically correct among us will say that "only a few" are acting violently, there are two main things that identify if a religion is violent or not.

1. Does their doctrine (Quran, Bible, etc) say that you must perform violence under a given situation?
2. Often the above is given to interpretation, so more importantly you must understand that the 'fruit' of a tree represents its health. i.e. a diseased tree will produce diseased fruit. In this context, when you see concentrated groups of people from a religion, do you see many violent acts?

Having said that - I PERSONALLY do believe that Islam promotes violence, as can be seen by the constant killing by muslims, even against muslims, in Bagdad. If you want to try and put that down to simple civil war, then simply do some research into other major muslim centres - even sub-centres within western countries.

Christians are taught that Islam is violent. Here is an example

In 640 AD the Muslims took the city of Alexandria. They were headed by Caliph Omar. The Caliph has been quoted as saying of the Library's holdings, before burning it to the ground: "they will either contradict the Koran, in which case they are heresy, or they will agree with it, so they are superfluous."

In some similar manner, Christians destroyed important elements of the ancient Greek and roman civilisation... And so on...

Surely not. This can be seen by the fact that islam ruled the world far more longer than any other forces in the world - it can't be deny by any historian in the world. If this occur by violence, surely the fate of islam will be just as the chinese dynasties had.Likewise,if this situation happens to the Christians or any other religion,i'm confident the reaction was the same.

Only for those who misinterpret its teachings - MAD CLERICS, JEHADISTS, etc...

The POPE (NOT GOD) is the HEAD of one of the most Violent Religions in History - The Roman Catholic Church (The Inquisition, etc...)

The POPE knew damn well that his comments would wind up some of the more stupid Muslims...

And those Stupid Muslims (not all Muslims) played right into his hands...

To counter the POPE's antagonistic historical 'quotation', the stupid Muslims should have kept their stupid mouths shut!

PS. I do not follow any Religion; I am not a LOST SHEEP!

I'm not Islamic, but i don't believe that they are violent. It is a miss conception, because it is a religion as any other.I sincerely believe it is just that they( people in general) do not like them and anything that comes to mind they associate it with them.
I leave it for you to judge, that was only my opinion.

Absolutely.
What worse way to do it than to kill an innocent nun by shooting her in the back (the cowards) and firebomb 2 Christian churches in Palestine.

Just look at what is happening in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Sudan, Lebanon, Chechnya, Indonesia etc. etc, etc.
Hate, bombings, Muslim on Muslim killings & killings of other religious minorities as required by the Quran.
