I don't think any amount of money should be given to prevent stealing. A good lesson in what is right is what should be rewarded. There is no reason for a child to steal unless it's for survival (food, water, the like.) Stealing is a choice at this age and that's the choice you made when you were younger.

An allowance should be a privilege that is earned not means to prevent stealing. Take into consideration the child's age, gender, and usual activities. Remember there is a difference between a 13 year old boy and a 16 year old girl. There spending habits will be very different. Make sure they work for their allowance, otherwise they will not appreciate the value of money. Work doesn't necessarily mean physical labor. Implement basic rules that must be followed in order to received allowance, such as a clean room, good grades, respect, etc - the basic things that should be expected of a child. Hold them to a standard.

You can't prevent a kid from stealing by giving an allowance...if you do that, the kid will continue to steal and have fat pockets. You prevent them from stealing by leaving their a**es in jail when they get arrested & not running to the police station to bail them out.

Allowance wont make a difference. They will just steal bigger things. Let them get caught and deal with the police

for me you should ask your kid if how much money does he/she needs a day, talk to your kid its nice to have a communication with your kid so that he /she can open up all he/she needs. As for me i did not steal from my parents they always talk to me so sometimes if my money got short , Im doing a buy and sell business and thats my kids are also doing in right now she is 9 yrs old.
