In reality that only results in getting the crap beaten out of you. I, not being a Christian, believe that if someone strikes you then you beat the crap out of them and make sure that they remember the moment.

Because:

1) Contrary to what you may think, we are human too!
2) Some people who claim to be Christians have not had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ who says of His people, "you shall know them by their fruits" - the "fruits" are love, patience, peace, kindness, joy, self control, etc. The Christians who do not have the fruit of the spirit are generally those who have been brought up in Christian homes but have not committed their lives to Jesus Christ and continue living as non believers do, hence no change in them by the Holy Spirit.

Find me one passage in the Bible where it claims that becoming a Christian will instantly make you perfect in all aspects of the Christian faith.

I am a Christian, and I know I will never be a perfect example of a Christian - Jesus is the only perfect being to ever walk the Earth in a human body.

If you study the verses in which Christ taught "turn the other cheek", you will see that it was referring to when a person is proselytizing.

If some one smacks you for no reason, deck him.

Ok, so you're saying we should just bend over and take every piece of crap that people shove at us. We aren't allowed to stand up for ourselves or anything. That makes a whole lot of sense. "Yeah, sure, you can beat and murder my children. Here, why don't you take my cat too." Give me a break. That was a stupid question.

Jesus commanded it because he knew it would be a problem just like loving your neighbor as you love yourself. He knew then that our pride and self righteousness would get the best of us...

Sometimes I have practiced it, sometimes not. When I realize my err, I try to repent to both man and G-d. If you have a better suggestion, I am certianly open to it.

Blessings
