There is plenty of historical evidence that there was a real man named Jesus that did and said the things that are recorded in the New Testament. Some people choose to dismiss him as a myth because it easier then to have to deal with who He was and what He taught. Basically, you either believe He is who He claimed to be - The Son of God - or you don't. And if you choose not to believe, you have to justify why you don't believe. Embracing the "myth theory" is one way to justify ones unbelief. But if you seriously study the evidence, I think you will see that it is a flimsy argument with no historical support. Most of the people on here that claim Jesus is a myth have never examined the evidence one way or the other. Most of them just heard someone else say it was so and they latched on to it as a way of dismissing the whole story. At least in their own mind.

Your MYTH is just a MYTH!
Although the quote is commonly attributed without source documentation to Pope Leo X, it is believed to have originated in a satirical piece by a Protestant controversialist named John Bale (1495-1563) titled "The Pageant of the Popes" (source). Bale wrote:
Quote:
For on a time when a cardinall Bembus did move a question out of the Gospell, the Pope gave him a very contemptuous answer saying: "All ages can testifie enough howe profitable that fable of Christe hath ben to us and our companie."

Well, first of all, let me point out that your question contains the hidden assumptions that myths are trivial and that they are not real.
Myths are actually a kind of language that can connect us with what we might call "our ancestral humanity." They contain special truths that resonate within the human psyche. If you take the time to really listen to the stories, you will see what I am talking about. In that sense, myths are very real. They are every bit as real and as important as your own heart.
I personally believe that Jesus walked the earth, and that much of his story as told in the Bible is true. I also feel that many structures of belief grew up around his teachings as those teachings were passed down. Today the basics of his teachings are very hard to discern. However, I'm not sure if I would consider all that extra stuff to be myth. It would depend on the particular belief and how it is conveyed. Myth speaks directly to the heart. Many of the stories in the Bible speak to the heart very effectively. If myth is undestood as being real, then those stories are real as well.

the point being the once real Christ is now dead and has evolved over the years into a myth . If you have the maturity to admit this then the spiritual food that is left can be of great use provided you are adult enough to understand . This is the moral value of the man that died long ago to give us food for thought if you apply yourself . and you need not be monotheistic to follow suit .

Christ is a Greek title that means anointed one. So it's likely that there was more than one person with that title otherwise the word would not be as unique as people believe it to be.
If you mean Jesus, I think someone by that name who was a great teacher may have existed. I don't think he was God though.

There is both secular and scriptural proof for Jesus of Nazareth. The Bible. Josephus, and Roman historians all talk about Him.
There is more proof for the birth, death, and Ressurection of Jesus, than there is that Julius Ceasar ever lived. Of course you would have had to do your homework in order to know this.

Both.
The man Jesus the Christ existed and myth has been created about his existence.

I think Leo X was unusually candid for a Pope.

The man Jesus, son of Joseph and Mary, of the line of David did truly exist. There are records of his taxes and death in Roman documents that are in the Vatican and in Egyptian museums. I've seen photos of them and translations of their words.
