There are few things you need to know yourself. if you really love him, will you feel upset after breaking off with him? Secondly, do you enjoy being together with him. Only you have the answer to this question. If you don't feel happy with the guy, then I don't see there is any problem for you to initiate the breakup.

Well, if you want to leave him, I guess you just leave, but if it is only your mom wanting you to leave him why are you even considering it. If you do decide to leave however, be upfront about it and tell him how you feel and your reasoning. There is really no easy way to put it so just put it out there and hope for the best.
