I don't want to have to burn all of my Xvid and Divx videos onto DVDs, then lug the DVDs around with me. Are there any portable DVD players that have a USB port or some way to attach an external hard drive? Are there any that have hard drives on them?

Right now, the only solution that I can find is the video iPod, but I'm looking for something with a larger screen and preferably something with a power cord so that I don't have to worry about charging the battery every few hours.

Debby, I am doing the same as you right now. I have a laptop from work and I am using it as a portable DVD player. The only problem is that I am technically not supposed to be using it for recreational purposes.

If it comes to that, I'll bite the bullet and pay for a laptop. It just seems to me like there has to be some sort of portable player out there that retails for less than a new laptop

I have used my laptop as a DVD player- even in the car- I like the bigger screen- and have a plug in for my lighter outlet- that I plug the laptop into- Walmart has the plug in for about 30- it is an electrical outlet you plug into the lighter-D

Some televisions today use USB as a way to transfer the image across, so if you have a TV that has that USB port then you have a the opportunity to get a very clear picture :D

Don't think so. But if not...that would be a money making invention for sure!
