My vote is for Spanish then Italian. No surprises there. Accent marks where they need to be, and phonetic spellings. You are never at a loss when encountering a new word.

The most logical language ever invented by linguists was a language called loglan. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loglan ). But it is so different from other spoken languages of the world that it would take you longer to learn than Latin.

If you are looking for one that you can actually learn in a reasonable amount of time and communicate with other people in, try Esperanto. It's a language created by an amateur linguist from Poland in the last half of the 19th century. It was intended to be a second language to the world, and allow international trade and diplomacy through a neutral second language. I began learning it in 2000 and am fluent in it now. It has a large following (best number we can come up with is about 2 million people speak it in the world today). It has a large library of literature an music, both translated and original. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto ). If you would like to know more about Esperanto, just email me, or ask again about Esperanto.

If you are looking for a natural language, try Mandarin Chinese. It is very logical language. All verb conjugation's are the same (unlike any European language). It has almost no rule exceptions, but you probably won't pick it up quickly. It's complexity comes from the fact that every word can have 5 different meanings depending on the tone it is spoken with. I vote Esperanto. Though I have never heard anybody speak it, and have never seen even a single word written in Esperanto. But I heard that it was designed to be easy to pronounce for the various tounges of the world, and the grammar is basically adding prefixes and suffixes to stems. Of course, I could be way off, but this is what I seem to remember.

Not saying it's not logical, but I find this interesting. Different countries have different sign languages. In Japanese sign language, if you want to say "brothers" or "siblings," you make both of your hands into a fist with palms inward, then raise and lower both hands like you're and 'ole tyme irish boxer, while extending the middle finger of each hand. Its true! I was watching a Japanese program about sign language (don't know why, so don't ask)!

I'm somewhat familiar with German, Latin, Russian, and Chinese. Chinese word forms and grammar are surprisingly linear. The Chinese characters also have a logic, but that is an entirely different topic. Writing and speaking a language are different skill sets.
