"you give"

2006-11-29 18:47:12 · answer #1 · answered by fatboyslick 3 · 3 0

It means 'you give' (informal singular), although it's hard to give a definite meaning because there's nothing after the verb. The rest of the sentence may change the meaning of it.

[Edit:] I've just noticed your other question about Ruppelware and I saw the item on Ebay that you must be thinking of - the metal disk with 'du gibst' written on it. The diamond, heart, club and spade obviously show a link to playing cards. In this context, 'du gibst' means 'you deal', as in dealing playing cards.

Du gibst means "you give."
As in, "Du gibst Mary ein hund." (Translation: You give Mary a dog.)

'You give'.
Or 'you hand over smth.'
Depends on in what context.
For example You give me a shiver.
But you hand the present over to me. Of course you can also say you give me the present. But you cant use to hand over in a metaphysic way.
I suppose you know anyway.

You give.

It is the informal singular form of the second person.

Literally, it's "You give" - but depending on what word follows it, it could mean something totally different!

You give.

Ich gebe
Du gibst
er/sie/es gibt
wir/Sie/sie geben

pretty simple language except for the sentence structure. Now that's stupid.
