47 Foreign Tourists were attacked, robbed and assaulted by armed gunmen in Cape Town on 29/11. See news24.com. Seems the modus operandi is to lure foreign tourists into the townships on the pretence they are safe. Organise school kids to put on the usual act of crying and telling stories about being victims etc. Secure donations and if they still have money left rob them. Blame apartheid and offer trauma counselling.

Malan - Brazil? Aren't you punting SA to foreigners? Getiing held up with a gun and robbed constitutes an assault in civilised Countries. Townships generally safe? Crime in SA happens anywhere, anytime and all over so nowhere is safe. Not even sitting in your own home. Read Patti's response if you think it is isolated and there have been numerous incidents with Tourists at your so called "safe" sites. Your authorities are now calling for the Public to assist in breaking a crime syndicate involving Customs Officers at you Airports. They are advising awaiting criminals by mobile phone of which Tourists are carrying valuables and large amounts of money. The Tourists are then robbed outside your Airports. Face it - SA is crime infested led from the very top.

Patti - That was just another incident but Tourists have been robbed in busses stopping Rest Places on the Highways. The point is that the ANC are not interested and the Tourist Industry are in denial and morally bankrupt. Read their websites. But at least you understand the difference between right and wrong and having a reason to be proud of SA.

Smiley - I dont want to send you the wrong message. There is much that South Africans can be proud of but the ANC is not one of them. Neither is the Tourist Industry who continue to dupe Tourists into believing " crime is everywhere and SA is no different" and make them part of the South African problem. That is not a solution and in fact it makes the problem worse. Tourism is a cash cow and the Industry should be the biggest lobby and voice in getting the ANC to do something about it instead of telling people to leave. Or like that other fool Grindrod offering one way tickets in an unoriginal publicity stunt which makes you wonder if he is also on the ANC's payroll. For as long as deadwood like him are elected South Africa will never solve it's problems. I wish I had a solution for you but you are stuck with that Government forever in a one party Marxist state.

Malan - As the "facts" come out it seems 7 were robbed at a school and 40 at a Restaurant ( a number of them were assaulted according to your Police spokesperson). The Rsetaurant begged the Media not to report the matter because of the affect on business. Incredibly there was another attack on Tourists the same day at a plush Hotel in Seapoint that did go unreported. This time they were robbed of their belongings at the breakfast table by armed gangsters. Are you aware of the meaning of criminal deception and fraud?

Yes absolutely and protected by the police, the 2010 World Cup will suffer because of it, the word is out there already don't go stay home and stay alive, now how sad is that.
It's time for a new order to save this country from it's self, the great majority of the black people just want jobs and to live in peace but are so brained washed by the various angels in their communities that they happily jump off the edge of the cliff into the abyss.

Alf, you can really be a bit of a plonker at times!
You're taking an isolated incident & turning it into somthing that it's not. We've also had a jap tourist eaten by Lions in the Kruger Park (stupid git shouldn't have gotten out of his car to be photographed next to a pride), an English chick taken by Hippo's in St. Lucia (she went swimming at night after leaving her clothes under a sign that said "Danger - Do Not Swin Here"), and countless other incidents where unfortunate tourists have been attacked, robbed, raped etc etc over the years. It has also happened to locals.
Do we all now have a go at the far east because we might get swept away by a tsunami, have a go at the USA because we might be hijacked on a plane & driven into the nearest building, have a go at traveling to London because we might get blown up on a bus?
This incident, unfortunate as it was, is just that: an isolated incident that the media have got hold of & is turning it into a means to sell more airtime & news papers.

It really is a shame that something like this happened... The townships are generally safe to visit with tourism industries. Tourists in a bus in RIO,Brazil was robbed by armed men a week ago. So it seems that they are also involved in organised crime, alf? One tourist on that bus in cape town was hurt..why do you tell people that 47 were assualted? I condemn the incident, but keep to the facts.

Seems to me that getting out of that situation qualifies as good old common sense rather than running away.
And, if all the actual facts were related pertaining to violent crime in SA, the situaion would look a whole lot worse than this and not better.

They must keep up with the 'great work'. Yes, keep on chasing the tourists away. Go on, attack them and rob and assault them. Great job! The whole world know by now how bad it's going here and no one wants to visit South Africa anymore. One day South Africa will be like a ghost town with only the baboons left. They make me sick. So not Proudly South African.
