I have a little Jack Russel. I know it sounds odd, but I was wondering if i can use a little nailpolish for her nails. I do not want to do it if it causes the dog distress or if it may harm her. She is a very calm dogs and loved being pampered...even letting me brush her teeth when i bath her. I was thinking that maybe i could paint one paw at a time and wait for it to completely dry before painting other paws, so she has not chance of licking wet nail polish. Does anyone know if a little dry nail polish is toxic?? Thanks,

If you can manage to keep a JRT still (without drugs! lol) long enough to paint its toenails, more power to you! We all bow down at your feet in awe.

It's fine. Not toxic at all. Groomers paint dogs' toenails all the time.

Have fun!

*wishing I had a webcam hooked up to see how much gets on the nails vs. the paws and owner's hands* :-)

Good on you for attending to her dental hygiene needs, btw!!! On that, human toothpaste is a HUGE no-no, however. Must use a canine formulation (just in case you didn't know.)

GO FOR IT!!! Groomers paint dog nails all the time, I know as my Aunt , sister & mother are all groomers. Also I have a lil pug and I paint her nails all the time, she LOVES it!!! do it up in all sorts of fun colors!!!
Just be sure to watch her when the polish is wet so she doesnt lick it off try to get the 60 second dry stuff it works best & so that you know doggy nailpolish is the same as human polish just drys faster so not to worry!!! My Aunt, Mom & sister all use both doggy & human polish in their shops & have never had an incident!! BEST OF LUCK to you!

I have seen many dogs with polish on their feet. If your dog doesn't mind the smell it shouldn't hurt it and you sound like you have a clue by saying you would wait for it to dry. HOWEVER.... if you notice your dog chewing on its feet remove the polish it is somehow bugging the dog to have it on. You could also try using the polish you can get for young girls first. it is probably less toxic, but may not last long. Like you said some dogs love pampering. I had a dog growing up that i could dress up as a babie including cloth diapers and plastic pants (with a hole for her tail)
The more time you spend with your dog the better person you become:)

You must remember that all nail polish is toxic and gives off fumes that dogs can smell even more than we do. I know my dog doesnt like it when i wear nail polish, even after having it on my nails for a week she can still smell it and doesnt like it.

I've seen other dogs with their nails painted. I think it's going to be quite a trick, though. You may want to ask someone at a grooming parlor how to go about it, or maybe someone here will tell you.

Groomers have used it for many years, with no harm..However, now there is doggy nail polish that is extra safe.. You can find it at most pet supply shops..

I can't see any harm in it, but to be completely sure you could ring & ask a vet
but when you do paint them buy the one that hasn't been tested on animals

Don't use the nail polish that humans use. Buy the doggy nail polish, it's not toxic if they chew it off.
