Yet everyone claims that exact same God is the all-loving God of the New Testament. Why the 360 split personality? Also, there is no middle ground between the two. I find it very hard to believe that Gods of other cultures were the same.

God has never encouraged sin. Don't forget the 10 Commandants were given to Moses in the old testament. Violence occurred at that time but was not advocated by God unless a "just" war, for example.
Also, most theologians of all Christian faiths agree that most of the books of the old testament are not historical in nature. Most are parables (short fictitious story from which a moral or spiritual truth is drawn), allegories (folk stories e.g. Genesis to teach a lesson whose point is God's message to us),and problem stories (for example intermarriage in Book of Ruth whose point is tolerance), short stories & the historical novel.
Although many denominations believe these books are literal, the majority of theologians, both Catholic & non-Catholic do not.

The old testament doesn't encourage rape torture murder, or any of these terrible things you list. It shows a real picture of the consequences. It's a picture of real life. It's what really happened, and I think it would be horrible if the old testament was sugar coated and filled with lies that life was and is perfect. I think by showing us the horrible things that happened when people went against God's will, it incourages people now to learn from those people's mistakes and not do some of the stupid stuff they did in the old testament. Why don't you pick up a bible and read it for yourself?

The old testiment is like your grand father sitting down and telling you his version of when his grand father went to school.
It was written usually at least a hundred after the fact by people that heard the story form some one else. There are no stories in the old testiment that says..I woke up this morning and...bla bla.

God's been very clear about what is right and wrong. Seeing that men failed to uphold the law; He sent HIs Divine Son, Jesus as a ransom for sin. Through the eyes of faith one may see that God and The Lord are One. His benevolence goes before Him. Christ is the light of the world!

The old God was for those things because of the time when the humans were living.
But as God is everything he changes over time (why else is he so hands off now?) and that is why he sent jesus, to let us now that he has changed and to renew our lives and save our souls.
That version of God is a little out dated, he isn't like that anymore.

The Bible was clearly written by primitive men in primitive times, and is not divine in the least.
