I talked 2 my gynocologist about the whole shaved vs. natural thing, and she said that it is better 2 be natural bc it helps prevent bacteria. If this is so why does everyone want 2 shave. I am also curious 2 why do people come up with this idea that it is unsanitary for women to have pubic hair, but a man is not considered unsanitary if he has pubic hair. What is up with the double standards? If we dont shave we are considered dirty, but if they dont then its ok.. I am totally confused. I am not a feminist, but I just dont understand why America is the only country that has a hang up on pubic hair as well as hair in other areas. It does not make u less feminine It's natural and God wouldnt have made it if it werent useful. The fact is that my gynocologist said that going au natural is more healthy than shaving bc of of ingrown hairs, cysts and other infection. I am not condeming those who do shave.. I just wanna know whats up with the double standard?

I dont know why your gyno said that... but read below..
PS: God created Adam, and then when he created Eve... it was a new gender and an issue... they were kinda shy to look at each other's genital so God created pubic hair to cover it up.
I personally think its cleaner to be bold down there... there are other methods than shaving you know!
So let's first take a look at the advantages of removing female pubic hairs:
- to remove bacteria and germs, in general to be cleaner (That's nice, can't hurt to be cleaner)
- to be sexier and more sensual to our partners (You can't go wrong on this point either.)
- to have less hairs to get in the way of wearing a bikini or thong (For those lucky enough to be able to wear one of these.)
- to prevent hairs from getting caught in sticky sanitary pads (How often has this happened to you?)
- to prevent hairs from getting into our partners mouths during those intimate times (That's always so yucky.)
- it's easier to care for your private body parts without hair getting in the way (Sounds good to me.)
- to look better and smell fresher (Kind of goes along with the first one but never hurts to smell and look good)
Now for the disadvantages of pubic hair removal:
-having to remove hairs every couple of days for some techniques (Doesn't sound like much fun especially when you look at everything else on this list.)
-itchy feeling when hair is growing back (Oh girl, I can't stand that feeling.)
-skin irritations on sensitive or any type of skin for that matter from such frequent hair removal (Not this and on top of being itchy, how bad can it get?)
-Cuts and nicks and even blisters, depending on the form of hair removal used (Oh come on now, this isn't fair at all.)
-Scarring from past cuts, nicks or blisters that make future hair removal more difficult and even more painful (OK, you can stop now I'm grossed out enough.)
-can become quite expensive for many procedures as often as it needs to be done (And now you even want lots of money?)

The hair is very important, particulary in those areas, since it shields the genitalia from direct contact with bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. Perhaps, the idea that women should shave their pubic area is a byproduct of exposure to smut and other pornographic materials where, for aesthetic reasons perhaps, both couple shave their pubic area. But one must remember that you have to love hair in order to love the vagina. It is the leaf around the flower, the lawn around the house. You cannot pick the parts you want.
America is not the only country that has hang-ups on pubic hairs. I think it is prevalent in many cultures aroud the world. Perhaps you should find comfort in the fact that other nationalities as well, have issues regarding the pubic area. As for the double standard, it may not be right but the reality is .... there will always be double standards for everything. The double standard may not be necessarily applicable beween men and women alone. It is these double standards that make us ponder on certain issues. A single standard would be boring.

Why do women shave their armpits or their legs for that matter? Shaving the armpits and legs for women is a societal norm and shaving the private area is becoming the societal norm. I would say a lot of sexual norms are set by the porn industry - I just read and will confirm that older porn showed women with full bushes and recently has been showing women that are shaved. Another industry that sets the norm is the fashion industry. The fashion industry is going to more skimpy and slutty clothes that show more skin rather than modest clothing and also the bikini is the norm now for ladies swimwear. There are a lot of reasons out there for this to become the norm. Some people claim that the vagina is prettier when shaved. I for one like natural body hair even armpit hair, so I would encourage to not get caught up in the hype, natural body hair is beatiful afterall God did create it as you said. hopefully this answers the question.

First of all I am a guy so my opinions and thoughts may not count but here goes. Some men are shaving too but who's idea it was is beyond me. I would not shave my eyebrows or the hair on my legs or anywhere else simply because I believe that nature, in its wisdom put hair in certain places for a reason. Whatever the reason might be, it is a better one than removing our body hair for vanity (legs, underarms etc.) Cleanliness, (Whats dirty about hair? Wash it!) or current fads (they change all the time). I would stop worrying about it if I were you and go as you feel most comfortable with yourself. I think the way you were made is probably the best way.

It's all about fashion not hygiene. Most bathing suits, bikinis and hi-cut undies don't hide pubic hair at all and it does look gross hanging out of the side..(I make jokes about it all the time, telling my friends I comb mine and sometimes I even part it on the side...just kidding )However, I do think waxing is better than shaving because you don't get all the bumps and there's less chance of cuts and razor burn which can lead to infection and be very uncomfortable as well.

Every woman has their own reason I think. There definitely is double standard, but does that surprise you in a culture that believes women need to be gorgeous all the time? There are not many expectations for men, but for the record, i do know some guys who trim or shave.

Don't shave--ingrown hairs, roughness, itchiness, irritation. If you want to remove pubic hair, get a Brazilian wax treatment, or laser instead.
In reality, pubic hair is unhygienic because it collects sweat and bacteria.
To shave or not to shave is not an issue double standard, it's just that shaving is unpleasant for you because of the above reasons (unless of course, if you like itching and other forms of irritation)

At 14 years old I wouldn't think that many females are wanting into your pants. However if you just want to be ready then I would keep them trimmed at whatever length yo want. Shaving is fine but requires more time. Not much if you keep up with it. From around here I understand that females prefer their guys to be groomed. That doesn't mean shaved it just means take care of it so it is not a wild jungle down there. Personally I keep the pubes trimmed and the balls shaved smooth. Doesn't take but a couple minutes and you are fresh and clean.

I think its very much a fashion trend that women in Brazil created. They are renowned for their skimpy bikinis and of course pubic hair looks unsightly.
There is also a cleanliness issue and people do feel better with no pubic hair at all.
Some people also feel that sexual intercourse is much better with no pubic hair. It feels more sensuous...
In my experience, as many men as women shave their pubic hair and wouldn't say its only for women.
There are also lots of people who like being hairy and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that either. I guess its a big an issue as you make it!

I don't really have an answer I guess, but there are lots of cons to shaving.
Cuts and knicks, the fact that its itchy as heck when it grows back, and if you shave it just grows back twice as bushy.
But I'm a guy so it's not really an issue. But lots of guys shave too and I don't think it's a good look/feel.
Just saw "pubic hair" and thought I'd respond. :-)
