It's a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
There are many Reiki Centers that offer training in this area if that is your interest, or if you are looking for a treatment, there are countless Reiki practitioners all over the country.
The following website offers training, or help to find a practioner in your area: http://www.reiki.org/

Reiki is a technique that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited
supply of universal life force energy to improve health and enhance the quality of life. A treatment will often feel like you have been enveloped in a warm light, glowing from the inside out. Many relax so deeply that they fall asleep during a session. Reiki treats the whole person including body, mind, heart and spirit and allows for deep relaxation, feelings of peace, security, and well-being.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way. Reiki always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. Reiki is a
simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self
improvement that everyone can use. It is a very subtle and gentle vibration.
Reiki is not about any particular belief system, it works within your belief system, religion, spirituality. Reiki is only energy, what you do with it is based on your intention and allowing it to flow through you for the good of the other person.

Reiki is a wonderful healing technique. It does not depend on belief, as some people think it does. I have people that I have served who do not believe in Reiki at all but it worked for them. One, a neighbor with high blood pressure who has had strokes in the past. She does not believe in Reiki but when her blood pressure goes into stroke range and her medication is not helping, she calls me first and then calls the ambulance. On five different occasions, the Reiki had her blood pressure into healthy range within the 7 minutes it took the paramedics to arrive. On occasions that I was not home, she ended up hospitalized with medicine taking hours to stablize her. She still tells me that she doesn't believe in Reiki that it is too subtle and she would never go to have it done, but when she is in life threatening stroke zone, she always asks for it and it always works. Reiki is a method by which a trained practitioner channels healing energy and directs it by intention and laying on of hands to the client. The symbols are much like the way a musical note calls one to play a specific sound frequency, they are used to call upon a specific healing energy. They are also a good way to keep the mind of the practitioner focused. Chakras are simply a part of the energy anatomy in the kundalini system as meridians are part of the energy anatomy in the chinese medicine system. They are major energy centers in the body. Most Reiki masters have some working knowledge of this energetic system but it is not specific to Reiki healing. Crystals are crystals. Some Reiki Masters will use crystals in their healing. This is not a part of traditional Reiki training but something that many healers incorporate.

Listen to this!
I came across Reiki, many years ago.... I had begun searching all that I could about it....... It is a hands on healing method which some have said was used by Christ to heal the sick........
I was going to fork over almost $3,000 to take a certified course in Reiki...... but, the only thing that troubled me was the 9 symbols which one is required to mentally focus on to channel the spirit of the symbol to energize toward an individual for the purpose of healing.......
So.... I prayed about it....... 3 days later I had this dream.......
I was on a bus.... there were 2 drivers... one was guiding the other...... I came to know them as angels later in the dream.....
When the bus neared the bus stop, I noticed that it stopped in front of a giant billboard.... the billboard was a picture of one of the Reiki symbols..... The driver/angel told me, "No.. You don't want to get off here!".........
Then, I sat down....
I saw another bus stop and pulled the lever getting up and heading to the exit..... each time, there was a stop light and there was another bill board.... and another symbol used in Reiki on that board..... He told me, "NO... You want to go further!... You don't want to get off here!".......
So, I sat down......
This went on for several stops......
That's when I saw that glint in his eye.... and i discovered the two of them were angels and they smiled at me when I mentioned it to my husband......
I ended up getting off the bus in the dream, but it wasn't in front of one of those symbols......
The angel told me no.... Not to get involved with Reiki.....
He explained to me why.... But, I could not remember......
I say, Leave it alone!!!..... that's what the angel was telling me....
Your sister,
Ginger
