I am looking into getting into bartending. I am researching and finding actual schools, as well as online certification programs. Are there certain licenses/certificates you must have to bartend in IL? Thanks for the help!

I can't answer your specific question about IL, but I can tell you that I am a bartender, and the schools are a waste of money, most states that I know of require whats called a stop certifacation. (AKA TIPS) It may be differant there, but I had to take a 3 hour class and a test (My class cost $25). If you can find an employer that will give you a chance with out the actual bartending school go for it! The biggest part of bartending is your personality, and customer service. You learn how to make all the drinks as you go. If I can help you any more let me know.

most or all of thoes schools are a waste of money, you can make a great living as a bartender if your good at it you should just buy a book on mixed drinks(there are a thousand and one out there, also you can try first to become a barback it is great way to get started and than you'll know quickly weither you want to be a bartender or not if you think its an easy job guess again it might look easy and like tons of fun but in the end it's a job so good luck and happy pouring.
