Straightening hair with a flat iron has definately has effects. Even though it eliminates the frizz, after a while your hair becomes dried out, and the ends of your hair die creating many, many, many split ends. Blowdrying your hair is definately not as bad as flat ironing the hair, however you tend to get more frizz , and less shine when drying the hair.

I straighten my hair everyday [which I know is awful for my hair] but I DO NOT blowdry it and then straighten it. I let my hair hairdry so it doesn't loose the shine. If i got out of the shower, blow dryed my hair, and then straightened it, my hair would be competely dry and dead. My best tip for you is once you get out of the shower, brush your hair, let it air dry completely, and THEN straighten it.

Get a ceramic straightener. Ceramic plates are much better for the hair. Try a Chi, Solia, or Superstar flat iron. They are among the best. Check out this website: http://www.folica.com You can read reviews on all the flat irons, and see which ones are the best for you!

Hope I've helped!

The chemicals used to straighten hair are the same chemicals they use to set permanent waves in hair and also that same chemical is used as a depilatory (hair removed)

If you use the chemical to straighten or curl hair then you have to put a neutralizer on the chemicals at a certain stage or else the person's hair can fall out.

Perms and straighteners can really damage hair so if you have fine hair or thin hair, it may not be a good idea to use chemicals on the hair

Yeah. It's full chemical treatment. Takes about 4 - 5 hours! For shoulder length hair, cost is Rs.5,000. The main side-effect is that it damages your natural hair. It lasts about 1 year! You can't change your hairstyle midway & its not worth it, Honey! If you still need to straighten your hair, use a flat iron meant for hair straightening! Good Luck!

If you have a good ceramic stragitener (not some $15 one from wal mart but one from a beauty supply store or a salon), and good protective products 9sleek.look iron spray that blocks up to 400F and the sleek.looks styling cream for extra protection) along with a trim every 6-8 weeks, straightening isn't all that bad for your hair. I do all of this and have for years and my hair is just fine-very shiny and healthy enough to also color every 6 weeks. Of course you are going to have breakage if you use any heating tool, but its all about protection!

Depends on the mechanism used and your regimen. What ever you do to your hair protect it first. It's like wearing a condom before sex. Always use conditioner after you wash it. Then if you use heated products to straighten the hair use thermal protective products now for chemical straightening I suggest you use a professional but if you choose not to. Use products that contain PH balance and chemical stabilizers. I recommend a ceramic beveler to all. It works miracles no matter what type of hair you have. It does the job. Good Luck.

It really depends on what straightener you are using, I recommend the remington ones with teflon coating- i have been using mine for 3 years now, and my hair seems fine. Just make sure your hair is protected by applying shampoo and conditioner, or your hair might burn from the lack of moisture.

hope this helps :)

Not if you go to a good salon and use the Japanese method. That method, which is costly (from $300 where I'm at) and takes about 4 hours, results in smooth, managable hair that glimmers. Of course, you've got to take good care of it afterwards too, ie, use good shampoos and conditioners.

yes there are. it can fry, damage your hair very badly. It can also make you get fly aways and frizz. there are some hair products that you can buy to prevent all that and use ceramic straighteners instead of gold-platted ones. that reduces the damage

Chemical straightening damages your cuticles making your hair rough to touch and it breaks easily.
Using a straightening iron causes a lot less damage if you use the right shampoo and conditioner and straightening product. using the iron does dry your hair and causes split ends.
