I realize more and more that I am tense all the time. My muscles in my neck and sholders are always up and clenched. The weird this is that I'm not stressed. I'm just always tense. When I sleep it gets worse and sometimes I my sholder gets so tense in the night that I wake up from it. What is wrong?

Once those muscles get tense - from sitting at a computer all day, from sleeping in an awkward position, etc. - they stay tense and need to be "released" by stretching or a massage. We should all stretch, at least in a small way, several times a day to keep our muscles loose. Once they get tense, it's easier for them to get tenser. Try getting a massage, finding some good stretches, yoga, and using heating pads or taking hot baths. Also, be sure to drink lots of water, as water helps remove the toxins in your muscles and the rest of your body that make you feel yucky, sore, and tense.

You're stressed, you just don;t know it or you're not admitting to it.

I know because I was like you. For years I've hated the people I have to work with, I dread going to work. There were times when it was not as bad and I thought the stress went away, but I locked my jaw while asleep and my shoulders were hunched from being tense all the time.

I quit the job and now I work from home - I no longer have stress or any symptoms of it.

You could be under pressure and not realize it. Are you taking a multi vitamin? Are you getting enough sleep? Eating right? Tip: before bed take ten deep breaths... Also try a beginner yoga class. That always loosens my muscle tension. OR go get a massage. Good Luck

Try some relaxation exercises before you go to bed. Also try a warm shower. If this continues you might want to see a doctor for some muscle relaxers or there may be some other problem.
