How is the grooming of this poodle? Do you regularly have his haircut, clean his ears and mouth. Ordinarily if this is well maintained, the smell would be less. But if you don't bath him say, at least once a month, have his ears clean (because it is common in Poodle to have hair impacted at ear canal entrance causing the ear infection), or have his mouth cleaned by a vet (dental scaling) probably the smell would worsen. Aside from that, there is sometimes a condition in dogs called seborrhea wherein there is an abnormal secretion of oil in the skin causing the dog to smell bad. This is an abnormal condition that needs more attention particularly because it will need more bathing to get rid of the smell. You have to use a particular shampoo for this like Oat Shampoo or Sulfur-Salicylic Acid Shampoo.

Check whether his ears or mouth are the source of the smell. If so, deal with those problems. Also groom him well---get rid of hair mats and see whether there is anything wrong with the skin.
Aside from mouth, ears, and rear end, poodles generally smell like whatever they have come in contact with.
Small poodles are youthful and long-lived, they do act younger than their age. I had one live to 21 years.
I haven't tried this with a dog, but I find that rubbing with fresh rosemary is great for removing human odors, such as under-arm odor.

i got a toy poodle too, i give him a bath with ivory soap and then baby shampoo, then i put conditioner as if it was my own hair.i give him a bath once a month in winter because it is too cold, spite of his sweater, he is an indoors dog, he goes out for his dogie duties. your doggy probably has digestive problems and that is why he smells, change his diet for a more gentle diet ask your vet about a gentle diet, they have different diets at the vet's clinic

Hi, I would start by getting his hair clipped very short, and then bathe him very good. Older dogs do have more of a doggy odor than younger dogs. I would also check his ears. If he has ear mites, the odor might be coming from his ears. He might also have a skin disease, like mange, which smells bad. All of these reasons can be found out by cutting his hair very, very close. Good Luck!

I've heard that feeding smelly dogs green beans can help with odor. Something about the chlorophyl in the beans, I can't really remember how it works. The green beans are ok for dogs to eat, but becareful because it may cause an upset tummy.

have a vet examine the dog and see what he recommends.... I suspect the dog is older than what they said.... there are some people who give away their older pet because of costly health treatments or they can't deal with it's "accidents" in the house... older ones tend to smell and so does their urine.
