I am a working father with the three most important women in my life, my wife and two daughters, aged 17 and 11.

My wife has had to work outside of our home state, so she hasn't been home a lot lately. I love my daughters very much, but lately, my eldest one seems to have an issue with wearing low rise pants, or just pants without any belts every so often. As a result, her butt crack/ underwear is exposed. Frankly, her sister and I are tired of getting "mooned" at or seeing what color underwear she has on a particular day.

However, it just seems a little...awkward for me to explain the crack problem to her.

My eldest is an honors student and plays tennis for her school and does some community service. Me and her are almost like the best of friends, so she is by no means a "bad kid". I just want to ensure she dresses properly to avoid being seen as some sort of "object".

Any ideas on how I should bring this topic up to my eldest over dinner or something?

Thanks for your time.

if you tell your daughter that she has to pull her pants up, you may recieve either one of the two reactions from her:

1. she will be willing to wear a belt or buy new pants

2. she will "freak out" and say that she doesn't care (some teenage girls don't like to listen)

I think that this topic should NOT be brought up over dinner. You should talk to her in private, because if she truly didn't know that her pants were too low, she would be embarrassed in front of your other family members. However, if you think that she is aware of this, then it is appropriate to discuss this over dinner, as she is totally comfortable with her butt crack hanging out.

They are generally more flattering than "mommy jeans" and are far more comfortable too. They reason why the hand goes back is because belt or no belt your butt crack will be showing when you bend over or squat... its just the way it is. As for skinny jeans, mine feel like tights and not restricting at all. I am sure it does not feel good on guys though. I have heard it messes with a guys sperm count too....

Been there - done that. It doesn't matter what you tell her because "it's the style" and everyone is doing it. She will get tired of it sooner or later and grow up.
I simply told my daughter that when she is around other parents and adults to show some respect and act like she has some class and manners. That means making sure she pulls her shirt down over the back of her jeans when she bends over or squats down and just being mindful of what and who she is showing it to.

- low rise jeans are made for that purpose of low ans sexy and wearing then are "the thing" with teen girls--but not all womens bodies are made for low rise so some just look ummm off and not hat great- she knows it's showing but she may not realize that teh look does nothing for her- but bummer abou being a dad and having to bring it up... maybge it is not her look or maybve you are just a dad who wants his daughter to be modest( good thng)

Tell her mother to speak to her. No daughter believes anything her father tells her about fashion or decency.

Tell her "Hey! You know, that low-rise style is kind of cool, I think I'll start wearing them."

When she starts blubbering about how inappropriate or gross that would be, agree, and hand her a belt.

"wear a belt with those pants honey!" easy....you are not saying don't wear them. If she asks why say "I'm your dad I don't want to see your knickers". Dads are allowed to do this.
