Honestly, for two teen parents with little money, a gift card would probably be most useful to them. I would recommend a prepaid Visa gift card, so they could use it where they want. You can get one at almost any bank. When I give a gift card I like to make it more personal, so I will stick it in a tin of cookies that I made or something like that. No matter what they will appreciate your gift!

I'd recommend a prepaid Visa or American Express gift card. They can use it anywhere that accepts Visa or AmEx.

You could also consider a gift card for a grocery store where you know they shop. Maybe also recipes, since they're young? Put together a bunch of simple recipes in a three-ring binder and decorate the pages. You could look specifically for "frugal recipes", ones with ingredients that are cheaper than most.

If you have SOME money, why not make the recipe book and then buy some of the ingredients the recipe calls for? Decorate the book beautifully and also give a basket full of things like flour, soup mixes, vegetables, ramen noodles (you can actually make whole meals by adding things!), canned broth, pasta, tomato sauce, etc.

It could be as big or small as you like, and would surely be appreciated.

Actually gift cards to the place you work can be sometimes awesome (since they'll have the inside info on the best sales, prices, ect.) When i used to work at CVS my favorite gift cards were the ones i could use there. However, it might be a good idea to also give something small with the gift card that's more personalized. like a baby rattle or framed photograph or something. Happy Shopping!

NO to gift card at Wal-mart ... since they probably do lots of shopping there already,
and employee discounts don't apply to gift cards

A gift card to a local mall, or maybe grocery store would be better. You could also buy fruit, crackers, packaged meats, etc. and make up a nice gift basket for them.

I spent 20$ of my 50$ gift card at a tanning salon and have not been able to make my card work three times since then. Two of them were not on line. I'm a bit pissed.

Don't do Walmart, but try a local grocery store or blockbuster would be nice.

Another idea, if you don't mind, is for you to make up a gift certificate for you to babysit for them for one evening, add a gift card to your local cinema. An evening out is hard to find in that circumstance and I can recall how appreciated "us" time was in the early years of my marriage.

I would think a gift card would go even further for them, because they will get to apply their employee discount as well.

Gift cards are the best answer when you have no clue what to get.

Yes. It would be a fine gift. Especially if they get an employee discount because they'd be getting more for their money. Even better!
