Hopefully your second one will be better. Usually the most painful part of the procedure is actually getting the freezing injected. They usually use what is called a "ring block." The nerve to the end of the toe runs on the left and right side of the toe. The freezing is injected into both sides of the toe to freeze the nerve. That's the part that usually hurts like stink until the freezing kicks in. See if you can get some over the counter topical anesthetic (like the kind the dentist rubs onto the gums before injecting freezing with the needle) and apply that to the toe at least 20 minutes before the procedure, covered with plastic wrap. In Canada the product is available over the counter under the brand name EMLA. Good luck!

Sure sounds like it would hurt. My son had the edges on both sides done, yeah, it hurt for a while, but that ended the ingrown toenail for him. All is well. Worth it not to have it happen more. Best of luck to you.

The first one hurts, the second one doesn't. But the third one hurts a lot. It's the odd-numbered ones that hurt.

Seriously though, the provider who's doing the extraction should do a nerve block.

It doesn't hurt all that bad. The worst part about it is getting the numbing shot. About a day after you get it out, it will hurt were they gave you the shot, but you can take pain meds for that. Trust me, I've had many done before. Hope your toe feels better!

Ask the doctor for some good pain medication and have a good ole time for a couple of days couch surfing.

If it hurt before and you go to the same MD, then it will hurt again.

This lady at my nail salon had one done a few weeks ago. She didn't look like she was in pain.

Instead of going to a doctor go to a nail salon.
