I'm assuming you have no drugs or vitamins.
Turn your radio off and get a fan and turn it on.
Make sure its really dark.
Counting sheep is bad. So is book reading.
Breathe in and out and listen to the fan. If you have no fan, go to www.iserenity.com and get some white noise.
Make sure your room is cool.
A warm shower might help.
You are not giving me a lot to work with here.

try the TAZO calming tea... it all natural no crazy drugs and its healthy.. it just calms u straight to sleep.
also.. pick up different habits.. such as exercising (ex: yoga) during the day.. take a bubble bath and relax before bed.. read a favorite book.. but if the reason why you can't sleep is because you are thinking about what you have to do tomorrow... make a list of things and organize those thoughts and then try going to bed...
or if the reason why you can't sleep is because you are revising what you did today.. then just tell yourself there is no use thinking about it since it's already been done and there is nothing you can do about it now execpt get some good sleep for a better day tomorrow. =)
Sweet dreams hope it helps

What's stressing you? Whatever it is, get a piece of paper, write down what the problem is and what you're going to do about it tomorrow. Then you won't have to think about it any more.
Don't have a clock where you can see it from bed. Don't watch television in bed. If you don't fall asleep within 20 minutes, get out of bed and do something quiet, boring, and dark (no TV or computer) for a while, then go back to bed.

I know for me that when all else fails I need to do something that will completely occupy my mind while putting me in a happy place. My choice is watching an episode of Friends, because it's familiar and it makes me laugh. If you have a favorite money put it in, if not pull-out some pictures of happy times, look at them, concentrate on breathing deeply and remembering good and happy times with less stress. Then close your eyes and just trust that you will fall asleep without any expectations of when. Sweet dreams~!

Ambien; comes in 5 and 10 mg. The newer Ambien CR is controlled release (for people who also can't STAY asleep). I love Ambien. Not groggy in the morning either...for me anyway. Lunesta is a newer one with supposedly a low side effect profile. ALSO, check out "Sleep RX" from a company called Bio-Chem. It is sold in healthfood stores and is relatively new. It works REALLY well! It's different in that in contains 1000mg of Phenylbutyric Acid (Phenibut) per serving, rather than the old valarian, passionflower, hops, and herb stuff never worked for me. Melatonin may be worth trying as well. It is also sold in health food stores.

Um, you might probably think I'm an imbecile for even suggesting this but.... it works like a charm.
#1. Make sure you have an anti virus program.
#2. recommended if you have a laptop.
Steps:
Run your anti virus program, and watch the screen.
I guarantee you, even the most alert of people will feel sleepy within 1 minute of watching the progressing scan.
Lol, this is NOT a hoax. You should try it yourself haha :)

maybe you just need to stop all that noisy stuff and put on the airconditioner. Then cover yourself with a warm blanket and say to yourself, "mmmm.... I love that". Then focus on how nice and warm you feel and just take a moment to think how happy you are to be in the bed. Then stop thinking about everything and lie there all cozy and warm. Dim the lights. Close your eyes. Think the same thing again.
Are you sleepy yet? ;)

Start taking some time for yourself about 15-20 minutes before going to bed. Yoga relaxes me and makes me sleep wonderful.

Lots of times I find myself thinking too much. So I start picturing myself in a big softy bed with giant fluffy pillows sleeping in a fantasy type room. This actually works for me.
