Senator Webb is a decorated veteran who thinks the occupation of Iraq is WRONG and he wants the soldiers to come home:

"How's your boy?" the president asked.

Webb responded, "I'd like to get them out of Iraq."

"That's not what I asked you," Mr. Bush answered. "How's your boy?"

Said Webb —"That's between me and my boy, Mr. President."

A source told "The Hill" newspaper— that Webb said he was so angered by the exchange— he was tempted to slug the president.

Should Senator Webb use his soldier son's boots to ask Bush to walk a mile in those shoes?

Gotta at least like his integrity if nothing else he is sticking to his guns on this one. Not changing his tune in front of the president.

What Senator Jim Webb needs to do is take a lesson in courtesy and respect. This was a reception that every president does for Senators-elect before they take office. It's meant to be light and non-political and a way to say Welcome to Washington. I believe the President's intention was more in line with "How are the kids?" than "How is your soldier son handling Iraq?" A simple "Fine. Thank you for asking." or "I appreciate you asking, but I prefer not to discuss him." and move on, would have certainly ended the conversation in a much more gracious way. Webb's response either shows a lack of respect for the Office of the President or an inability to turn off partisan politics. Maybe he's still in election mode. Also, for a Freshman Senator to dodge a receiving line or refuse to have a picture taken with the President of the United States is ridiculous. Sen. Webb needs to learn how to put personal feelings aside if he's going to have much of a political career in Washington. He's going to deal with MANY people he doesn't agree with for the next several years. Is he going to want to punch all of them in anger when they say something that offends him? A little tact and graciousness will go a long way. Finally, when a person enlists in the military, they KNOW they might be actually called into active duty and be asked to defend the U.S. in combat situations. The same is true of Senator Webb's son.

Senator Jim Webb needs to grow up. I don't care if he was a Marine and if his son is. When someone asks you, "how are you?", they don't really care, it's just polite chit chat. If Mr. Webb can't handle conversation 101, then Virginia really elected a bright one. President Bush knows his views on Iraq, he didn't ask that. At least the president knows how to handle an uncomfortable situation and talk to someone he doesn't like. The same can't be said of Mr. Webb.

How about this:
President: How's your boy?"
Webb: "I'd like to get him out of Iraq."
President: "Ya, me too. If we could just get everybody on the same page here, maybe we could get some stability over there so we could get him home.

No it shows Webb has no class. There is a time and place for everything.

You need to ask this question in January when Webb is actually a senator.

somehow i find it hard to believe that a senator son is having a tough time overseas or even if he is overseas in iraqi...someone with that much power and money dont you think that he would get his son out of this situation and have him not join the army. either way i think this is a bunch of crap....

That, or tell Bush to rotate the boots 180 degrees and shove them where the sun don't shine...
