all the answers you have are very close.. but here is the real deal. oxycodone is the generic name for Oxycontin a powerful pain medication, most of the information about it you have received is correct i wont repeat it. HOWEVER...Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen, a different less powerful drug. any questions you have about your medication should be directed to your pharmacist or physician.. advice here is helpful.. but not always accurate.

Oxycodone is a central nervous system depressant. Oxycodone's action appears to work through stimulating the opioid receptors found in the central nervous system that activate responses ranging from analgesia to respiratory depression to euphoria. People who take the drug repeatedly can develop a tolerance or resistance to the drug's effects. Thus, a cancer patient can take a dose of oxycodone on a regular basis that would be fatal in a person never exposed to oxycodone or another opioid. Most individuals who abuse oxycodone seek to gain the euphoric effects, mitigate pain, and avoid withdrawal symptoms associated with oxycodone or heroin abstinence.

Oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet, Percodan)

Oxycodone has a high abuse potential and is prescribed for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocation, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, and lower back and cancer pain. It is also used postoperatively and for pain relief after childbirth. OxyContin, Percocet, Percodan, and Tylox are trade name oxycodone products.

OxyContin is designed to be swallowed whole; however, abusers ingest the drug in a variety of ways. OxyContin abusers often chew the tablets or crush the tablets and snort the powder. Because oxycodone is water soluble, crushed tablets can be dissolved in water and the solution injected. The latter two methods lead to the rapid release and absorption of oxycodone.

What should I avoid while using oxycodone?

Do not drink alcohol. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with oxycodone. Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol.
This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how oxycodone will affect you. Dizziness or severe drowsiness can cause falls or other accidents.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with oxycodone and lead to unwanted side effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit products with your doctor.

Oxycodone is a VERY HABIT forming pain pill. I am sure the doctor only gave you enough for a few days.
Take only as directed and let your mom know if you have any weird side effects, ie., dizzy, ringing in your ears, nose bleed, can't sleep.. Anything that is not normal for you. These pills will cause you to stay tired and maybe sleep more, so that's not abnormal.
They are sometime used as a generic form of high powered pain pills.

Percocet is not the same as Oxycontin. Percocet is a narcotic analgesic, pain killer, that will help with reducing the inflammation and cutting the pain, however, oxycontin is an opioid analgesic which is much stronger. Oxycontin is used for severe pain. If your pain is intolerable and you have oxycontin by all means follow what your doctor ordered for you. However, if your pain is not very high, ask your doctor what other medications you can take instead of '' getting out the big guns" at the first sign of pain.

oxycodone is oxycontin. It is a class II controlled substance..narcotic, opioid analgesic, highly addictive, over used, but a good pain killer for severe pain. Percocet is a combination drug of oxucodone and tylenol

Oxycodone is the narcotic analgesic found in Percocet. Oxycontin is oxycodone in a "continuous release" tablet; hence the "contin" for continuous. Oxycontin has a much greater potential for addiction/abuse than Oxycodone/Percocet. Hope that helps.

You type very well for someone who just had shoulder surgery !!
I think you are looking for drug information, only. If you are that
young, your parents would not leave the bottle with you, as it is hard
to remember when you took the last dose, it is that strong. If you are into the hard drugs, get help. It is not a life you want.

yes, they're like oxycotin. And VERY addictive,so don't take it unless you're REALLY hurting and watch ur dosage. If the script says take 1 every 4 hrs.,try taking a half. ALOTof people in ur position have contracted SERIOUS drug habits just taking the dosage prescribed by the doctor. But it doesn't take much and ur body will start craving it,so watch urself.
