My dog has absolutely terrble gas. She's never had anything like it before. I think she may also have an upset tummy. Is there anything I can give her? Tums or something? By the way the pups are 3 1/2 weeks old and have been feeding them puppy food mixed with a formula recipe I got from the vet. I have been giving her the leftovers, which usually doesn't amount to much with 10 pups to feed!!!LOL Could this be the culprit?

She should have already been on the puppy food and used to it, so it's doubtful that's the cause.

You're not giving her any cow's or goat's milk are you? Is she getting into any cat food? Is anyone feeding her any table scraps or people food? Has she gotten into the kitchen garbage? Those are all common causes of digestive disturbance in any dog, especially a nursing mama.

The most common cause, far and above, however, is intestinal parasitism. The stress of pregnancy and nursing can make a 'hidden' problem suddenly become an issue. Did she have a fecal test shortly before and right after the pups were born, and again when the pups went in for their first one at 2 to 2.5 weeks of age? Even if she did, I'd check again. Because of the complexities of life cycles of many of the parasites (which you can't see w/o a microscope, btw), it's important that multiple samples be checked at periodic intervals. Tums won't hurt, but probably won't help. Please call your veterinarian in the morning. As awful as the gas is for YOU, it is causing her cramps and pain.

Its definitely the puppy food... change in diet is bad for dogs and should be done slowly over a period of 2 weeks. Then allow at least another week or two before deciding to change again! Also, when the dam cleans up after young pups (eats their feces) it can have enough milk product to upset her stomach and cause almost nonstop gas. Once, my puppy sitter stupidly fed my lactating ***** a puppy formula milk which was meant for only a runt in the litter after I told her not to do that. She was clueless why my dog threw up 4 times that night.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7TJ

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

If the formula has soy in it, it could well be the culprit.. Soy is BEANS ..lol
Yes, Tums are ok, if you don't over do it, and a good source of calcium for her..
She may also have roundworms..have you had her and the puppies wormed yet? I always worm both mom and puppies at 3 weeks, as that is when the worms begin to mature and become active, and you can get rid of them..they also will cause the pups and mom to have upset stomach.

a nursing dog should be eating puppy food - yes that is the problem, its too rich for her...
some brands have more filler than others and that can be more demanding on their digestive system can causes more gas
YUCCA is an ingredient to contol odor

there are pills for gassy dogs you can get at pet supply store (NOT TUMS)

It maybe the formula. You might also try raising the bowl off the floor. The height depends on your dogs size. Sometimes dogs gulp in air when they eat or drink and raising the bowls helps it not to be swallowed thus causing gas. Check with your vet but I give my dog Beano

Not sure what is causing the gas. I wouldn't give her tums. Ask the vet if he recommends something to give her. 10 pups! What breed is it? One of my Chihuahuas had 7 pups last Friday.....lol
