That it's better to die fighting for what you believe in than to wallow in a life of buckling down, and living under standards and pressures you would not normally endure.

Yeah, I agree with your first answerer, that it's better not to grovel to some others' agendas as their slave, but to stand for something you can put your heart in.

On another totally different thought, it could be condoning doing something rather than being all pious and expecting God to come through for you. Personally, I believe God's will can be understood when we seek Him with all our heart and even on our knees (I'm not fit to untie His shoelaces, but if He wants me to I'll try) but to also (even at the same hypothetical time) go out and do what is the logical thing to do or to attempt something great for God's glory.

It sounds like the person is living in a very poor state / living condition that is unbearable. Such is the torment that it is better off dying than to live (begging) on your knees

I imagine a normal person dead

Then I imagine a paraplegic without legs

Even though I took the quote seriously it still has the same effect/meaning

That is all very well but not practical. It is better to live than to die.
A much better alternative would be:
It is better to be a live dog than a dead lion.

It talks about pride...but it is applicable in real life. We should always stand firm when it comes to dignity and honor.
