I was just recently looking over a few pictures of myself of when I was a child (around 5-7 years-old), I am an 18 year-old male now... and I noticed that I had a white skin tone back then. Now at this time my skin tone is a brown-ish tan color (even in the winter) which struck me as really odd (yes I didn't think my skin color was different as a child, lol) Any reasons as to why my skin color changed? Was it cause I was really active in the sun as a I grew older?

I know this is a random question but it was bothering me lol

Your skin does change color with age, due to sun exposure and other environmental stressors. You are still very young, so you can try to correct and prevent more sun damage by using a light moisturizer with an SPF of at LEAST 15.

The older you get, the more your skin will change color & texture...the more you prevent damage, the better you will age and the less risk you will have of getting skin cancer.

Of course, the older you are the darker your skin color. Anyone that spends time in the sun or just outside in general, has a darker tone. Then again, maybe your pictures have faded a little over time. Who knows for sure. Ask your mom if she has noticed a change. Must be nice not to have anything else to worry you. Don't let something so trivial bother you. Life goes on.

When I was 15 and started wearing make-up I had to mix clown white with Cover girl Ivory (the avatar is a social experiment to see how I'm treated different) and now (age 34) I wear "classic beige" (3 shades darker) - as you can guess, being so fair I always wore lots of SPF and I'm famous for wearing longsleeves in summer and wide brim hats...
My dermotogist swears this can't be, but I have photos and I dont have much sun damage (there are special cameras to see it with) so go figure.

but no, you are not alone in this. I had the same thing happen to me.
P.S. even the skin on my butt (which has never seen sun) has gotten a bit darker

Of course at that age your skin was virgin skin. Untouched by suns harmful rays. Now over time your skin has tanned because of pigmentation. By winter time a tan fades but you after years of tanning your skin will have changed alot.

Your pigmentation develops over the first few yrs of life, this includes skin, hair and amazingly enough eyes.
